Petra Lassenius is Furniture Designer of the Year 2024
The Finnish Association of Interior Architects SIO has chosen Petra Lassenius as the Furniture Designer of the Year 2024.
Petra Lassenius (b.1969) graduated from the University of Art and Design as an interior architect and furniture designer in 2000.
Lassenius established her own design agency, Thema Design Oy in 1997. The company focuses on interior architecture and furniture design.
Since 2004, Petra Lassenius has worked closely with the furniture industry and designed several collections for various furniture manufacturers, including Adea, Junet, Hakola, Nordic Countryhome, Vepsäläinen, Dahlqvist and Sits in Sweden.
In 2013–2015, Lassenius worked as a temporary lecturer at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and taught interior architecture.
Since 2015, Lassenius has worked at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in research and development projects, including Creative Campus Arabia, Finnish Academy, Eevi, Agile XR and Luovi. In 2020, she co-founded the By Aatos collective to promote Finnish design with the aim of commercialising the work of Finnish designers and promoting abroad the strong traditions and present-day of Finnish design.
Petra Lassenius is a highly versatile expert with a long career as a designer. Her application was professional and exhaustive. In particular, the jury found Lassenius’ sofa designs to be insightful. The modularity and adaptability of the sofas and the longevity of the furniture are a sign of quality. Lassenius’ sofas may even become design classics.This year, the decision based on suggestions and applications was made by a representative of 2023 Interior Architecture Agency of the Year, Futuredesign; Interior Architect SIO Risto Wikberg; 2021 Furniture Designer of the Year, Yuki Abe; Chairperson of SIO, Interior Architect SIO Lars Räihä, and Architect SAFA Laura Mattila. SIO Secretary General, Minna Borg, acted as the secretary of the jury.
